National Ice Cream Day History

We have President Ronald Reagan to thank for National Ice Cream Day. But it all started a couple of decades ago. Back in 1984, senator Walter Dee Huddleston initiated a resolution to declare July as National Ice Cream Month and July 15 as National Ice Cream Day. Then, the same year, Ronald Reagan proclaimed July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of every July as National Ice Cream Day.

And it makes total sense we have a day dedicated to celebrating ice cream! America is the leading country when it comes to eating this frozen delicacy. In fact, a regular person from the U.S. enjoys 23 pounds of ice cream per year. We don’t know who invented ice cream, but it was consumed in China sometime between 618-97 AD, and it is believed that it was said that the first dish similar to ice cream was made from flour, buffalo milk, and camphor, a natural compound used in lotion.
