Let’s make Snow Ice Cream
When the snow hits our house, all bets are off.
You’d think that with it being so cold outside my kids would want to stay inside to keep warm by the fire but nope. They want to be outside throwing snowballs at each other and the dogs.
One of our favorite traditions is to wait for the very first snowfall and I mean the first one that really dumps feet of snow. Then we get our winter gear on and head outside to collect clean and fresh snow to eat.
Yes, I said eat!
We make this Snow Ice Cream every year and it never disappoints. It’s one of my kids’ favorite treats to make in the winter season.

Ingredients for Snow Ice Cream recipe
- 1/3 Cup of Powdered Sugar
- 2/3 Cups of Milk
- 1/2 Teaspoon of Vanilla
- 4 Cups of Fresh Snow
- Sprinkles (optional)
How to make your own Snow Ice Cream
Step 1
Once we know it is going to snow, we like to freeze some stainless steel bowls to be ready for collecting snow. This step is optional but it does help keep the snow nice and frozen.

Step 2
Once it snows, fill your bowl with snow and then liberally sprinkle salt over it. This will be your “cooler” so the snow doesn’t melt while you’re mixing and serving the ice cream.
Step 3
Next, add in your powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla and mix it up well.

Step 4
You can then top it off with some fun sprinkles and serve immediately. Enjoy!
