Thanksgiving Tree: A Family Activity

Ever see something and it inspire you to create something similar? I saw these nifty dowel trees on the Lowes Creative Inspiration site and remembered a family friend, fellow blogger Laugh with Us, they have a tree for every major holiday and we decided to create our very own tabletop tree for our Thanksgiving celebration this year.

Supplies needed:

  • A bush that has seen better days.  We had a massive drought this past summer and one of our bushes didn’t make it.  Perfect!tree
  • A floral block of foam.  We had a block leftover from a previous project.  These are great as all you need to do is stuff the branches into the foam.  Take seconds.
  • Spray paint – unless you like the color of bright green on your foam block peeking between the stones.  We made our block gray
  • A sack of pond rocks – available at Lowes.
  • Hot Glue Gun.  Have fun making a puzzle of the rocks as you cover the block.
  • Paper for leaves, markers for the kids to write what they are thankful for & ribbon for them to tie their thoughts to the tree.

My kids were thankful for each other, the pile of dirt they get to play with in the backyard, their legos, for their Daddy and the Library.

What are your kids thankful for?  Do you have any “Thankful” traditions in your family?

Thanks Lowes for being a sponsor of Quirky Momma, we are enjoying our shopping trips with you! Check out the Lowes Creative Inspiration website – they also have a great facebook page full of ideas for the holidays.
