DIY Jewelry- DIY Beaded Bracelets
We’ve learned how to make bracelets with homemade beads and it is colorful, fun, and easy. Kids Activities Blog hopes you enjoy this magazine recycle craft that you may even remember from your own childhood.
I’ve been trying to find something to do with all the parenting magazines we get in our house. Then I remembered when I was a teenager, I used to spend hours in my room, cutting strips out of my teen magazines to make beads out of. I made so many of them, I filled up an entire vase with them. That’s when I realized that this would be a great activity that I could do with both my preschooler and my teenager.

To Make DIY Jewelry, You’ll Need:
- Magazines
- Scissors
- White school glue
- Straw
- Pipe cleaner (or yarn if you’d like to make a necklace)
To make your own magazine beads for bracelets or necklaces:
Step 1
To prepare, I cut various strips out of colorful magazine pages. The strips ranged from 0.5 to 1.5 inches.
Step 2
Start rolling a magazine strip firmly (but not tightly) around the straw. Once it goes around one full time, put a few lines of glue down the inside length of the strip.
Step 3
Begin rolling the magazine strip around the straw. Don’t worry if glue squeezes out, this is actually beneficial for the finished product. Once the strip is completely wrapped, rub excess glue around it to firmly secure the end.
Step 4
Carefully slide it off of the straw by pushing the end of the bead that is farthest up the straw. If there is glue residue on the straw, wipe it off or just cut off that piece and move up to the next section, otherwise, the magazine strip will stick to it and not come off cleanly.
Step 5
Place beads on a nonporous surface to drive. Once the glue has dried, you can create your own bracelet.
How to turn your magazine recycle into a bracelet:
Step 6
We used pipe cleaners to thread our beads on. It provided some good fine motor skill and hand-eye coordination practice for my 4.5 year old son. After he had all of his beads on it, I just wrapped the ends of the pipe cleaner around the hoop and slide a bead over it.
The ending result were cute bracelets that both my preschooler and teenager want to wear. It makes me smile to think that I was able to bond with my kiddos over something that I spent so much time doing when I was young.
