How to Make a Wreath with Paper

To make this simple paper Christmas wreath, just download and print the free template, get the common craft supplies which you probably have, follow the step by step instructions and have fun making this festive wreath decor. The end result is a Christmas paper plate wreath that doesn’t take too much time.

Supplies needed for paper Christmas wreath

Cardboard
green construction paper
paper plate or any other plate
ribbon
scissors
glue or a hot glue gun
pen or pencil

Instructions to make paper plate Christmas wreath craft

Step 1

Trace the plate on a flat piece of cardboard.

Step 2

Draw another small circle to the inside of the first, creating a donut shape about an inch wide.

Step 3

Cut out the donut shape to create the wreath base.

Step 4

Use the base to trace the circle on the green paper – it may take several pieces of paper. Save the scraps for leaves!

Step 5

Cut out the curved green strips and glue them to the cardboard, covering it entirely.

Step 6

Trace and cut out as many green leaf shape sections as possible using the free printable (linked below).

Step 7

Fold each leave by the middle. Glue the base of a leaf in the middle of the wreath, with the unattached end of the leaf angled outward.

Step 8

Glue the base of the next leaf in the middle of the wreath, with the unattached end of the leaf angled inward.

Step 9

Repeat, spacing each leaf about an inch apart, alternating the direction of the leaf inward and outward until you’ve gone all the way around the wreath.

Step 10

Tie a bow with the ribbon, trimming the ends according to how long you would like them to drape down from the bow.

Step 11

Glue the bow to the top of the wreath.

What I’d do differently Next Time

I love the simplicity of this Christmas wreath, but sometimes you just want more glam. If that’s the case, you can get your leftover scrapbook paper or make paper roses, and glue them to the different sections of your wreath. I think glitter would look super cute too!
