How to Draw a Sunflower step by step

Let’s make our own sunflower sketch! Follow this easy sunflower step-by-step tutorial and you will be drawing your own in no time.

Step 1

Step 1 - How to Draw a Sunflower Easy Lesson - draw a circle shown in dotted lines
First draw a circle.

Let’s start with drawing a small circle. This will be the inner circle of your sunflower or the very middle of the flower.

Step 2

Step 2 - How to Draw a Sunflower Easy Lesson - add a bigger circle around the smaller circle you just drew
Add a bigger circle around the first one.

Draw a bigger circle around the first circle. We made ours just a little bit bigger than the original circle.

Step 3

Step 3 - How to Draw a Sunflower Easy Lesson - draw 6 petals with room between them shown with dotted lines
Draw 6 petals.

Draw six petals, and make sure there’s room between them. Draw the petal shape coming to a soft point at the end with curved lines on either side. It is fine if all the petals aren’t exactly the same shape and size, but you want it to be close.

Step 4

Step 4 - How to Draw a Sunflower Easy Lesson - add another 6 petals between the other 6 petals for a full sunflower
Add another 6 petals in-between the spaces of the first petals.

Add six more petals in the spaces between the first ones. I find it easier to fill in spaces with petals because you have a template for how big each petal drawing needs to be.

Step 5

Step 5 - How to Draw a Sunflower Easy Lesson - draw a tip between each petal for a total of 12
Draw a tip between each petal. You’ll be making 12 of them.

Draw a tip between each petal – they’ll be 12 in total. Remember if you looked at these petals from the back they would be about the same size as the petals you have already drawn!

Step 6

Step 6 - How to Draw a Sunflower Easy Lesson - add sunflower details
Let’s add some details.

Now let’s add some sunflower details!

Step 7

Step 7 - How to Draw a Sunflower Easy Lesson - add a stem at the bottom of the sunflower
Add a stem, you can make the bottom round.

Add a stem under the sunflower. A sunflower stalk or stem is pretty thick and round. The sunflower stem has to be big enough to support the weight of the sunflower.

Step 8

Step 8 - How to Draw a Sunflower Easy Lesson - add a leaf to your sunflower
Add a leaf and you’re done!

Draw a leaf or two onto the sunflower stalk.

Step 9

Step 9 - How to Draw a Sunflower Easy Lesson - get creative and make your sunflower drawing unique
You can get creative and add different details.

We erased some of the straight lines in the middle of the sunflower and made some curvy or wavy lines instead as you can see illustrated above. Add as many details, colors, and patterns as you want. Good job, your sunflower drawing is done!

I love flowers, especially happy ones like sunflowers! They are so bright and cheerful, and they remind me of beautiful spring. That’s why today we’re learning how to draw a sunflower.
