Today we are doing a leaf craft! Kids of all ages will love this fall craft which requires only a few budget-friendly craft supplies. Toddlers, preschoolers, and even kindergarten kids can do this craft as they celebrate fall by making a paper rake and paper leaves! Make this leaf craft at home or make it in the classroom!

Leaf Craft

Fall is here and the leaves are changing. They’re going from green to colors like red, maroon, brown, gold, orange, yellow… fall is so pretty. But along with fall comes raking leaves. So I thought making a craft using construction paper and paper plates would be an appropriate way to make this leaf craft.

Kids will be able to explore elements of fall, colors, change, and practice fine motor skills with this craft. So without further ado, let’s make some fun and simple leaf crafts.

Supplies Needed To Make This Leaf Craft

Leaf Coloring Page (We printed at 60%)
Scissors
Glue Stick
Crayons
Paper Plate
Brown Paint
Paint Brush
Construction Paper

How To Make This Leaf Craft

Step 1

Grab your leaf printable and print it at 60%. Color the leaves and cut them out.

Step 2

Cut a paper plate in half. Then cut that half in half so you have 2 quarters. Then cut 1 quarter in half or you can leave a little extra on if you want a thicker rake.

Step 3

Leaf Craft- Step 2- piece of paper plate painted brown- Kids Activities Blog — Cut a paper plate in half, cut the half in half, then a quarter in half. Paint it brown.

Paint the paper plate piece brown and let it dry. Once dry, cut off the tip.

Step 4

Leaf Craft- Step 3 - handle drawn on blue paper- Kids Activities Blog — Draw the rake handle on paper.

On a piece of paper draw the handle. We used blue. We rounded the top and made a flat bottom. The width should be smaller than the rake.

Step 5

Leaf Craft- Step 4- teeth cut into rake head and the tip cut off- Kids Activities Blog — Cut teeth into the rake head and cut the tip off.

Cut teeth into the rake.

Step 6

Leaf Craft- Step 5- Rake head and handle glued to paper - Kids Activities Blog — Glue the handle and rake head to construction paper.

Glue the rake and the handle onto the brown piece of construction paper.

Step 7

Leaf Craft- Step 6- leaves glued around the rake on brown construction paper - Kids Activities Blog — Glue your leaves to the brown construction paper.

Glue leaves to the construction paper. We made them in a pile and let them blow around.

How To Make This Fall Leaf Craft Your Own

Just like all of our kid crafts you can make this craft your own by:

Using real leaves (just make sure they’re dry the moisture might be in issue)
Add glitter
Color the leaves with markers or pencils
Use a popsicle stick for a handle
Use different colored paper
Freehand leaves
Sticking everything on contact paper

Our Experience With This Leaf Craft

We love fall. And this craft is a wonderful way to celebrate fall and it’s bounty… which is usually leaves. You can use leaves to make leaf crowns, to decorate with, but I wanted to do a paper craft, something all my kids could do.

We colored the leaves all sorts of colors and got to explore not only colors, but why they change colors in the first place. So really, it kind of worked as a learning lesson too. Which works out.
