The easiest baking hack to soften cold butter quickly is just to grate it and let it sit for a few minutes. Butter comes to room temperature much more quickly in tiny pieces. You can also cut the butter into small evenly sized chunks and microwave it in 5-10 second sessions, checking after each session to see if the butter is soft. Only use this method if you are paying attention! Butter goes from soft to melted quickly!
