Homemade Slushie Syrup Recipe {The Perfect Summer Snack!}

Well, a few years ago, I went to a friends summer bash, and one of the fun things they had out was a slushie bar.  It was so much fun and I left their house thinking, “I NEED a slushy machine!”

I tried ordering a specific brand online, but by the end of the summer they were out of stock. I was bummed, and visions of my summer slushie party were dashed.

If you don’t have a slushie machine, you can use a food processor a blender to make shaved ice.

This recipe is really easy for little ones to whip up, but there is a stove-top part to it that may require your assistance. This recipe is  very similar to what I do to make agua fresca (fresh fruit juice).

What You Need To Make Slushie Syrup:

  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 3/4 cups Water
  • 1 packet of flavored drink powder
  • Ice

Directions To Make Slushie Syrup:

  1. In a small sauce pan place the sugar and water, bring to a boil (remember to stir).
  2. Stir and lower to med. heat for about 2 minutes more. Remove from heat.
  3. Add drink powder to hot water. I used a pink lemonade flavored drink powder.

Let it cool for a bit and place in a squeeze bottle. Let it chill in the fridge before pouring on ice.

While the syrup cools, start making your ice. We used our small Rival Slushie Maker and made enough to fill 3 small cups.

Fill your cups with ice, and pour the slushie syrup  over it! YUM!

Enjoy and here’s another fun frozen treat to cool you off this summer: Easy Chocolate Covered Strawberry Popsicle.
