How To Make This Fall Craft For Kids
Let’s make our magnets now by creating some iconic fall things! What a fun way to celebrate fall.
Scarecrow Magnet
Step 1
Cut 1 popsicle stick in half and cut off the ends. Glue 3 jumbo popsicle sticks together by diagonally gluing a jump popsicle stick across the back of the 3 sticks.
Let it dry.
Step 2
Cut the ends off a regular popsicle stick, cut that stick in half, and glue it to the top of your 3 jumbo popsicle sticks.
Craft Notes:
We only had colorful popsicle sticks on hand so we painted the red popsicle stick white to make it easier to paint later.
Step 3
Paint the scarecrow’s hat brown.
Step 4
Now, paint the scarecrow’s face white.
And now we paint the bottom half of the scarecrow blue.
Step 5
Let’s decorate his face. Glue on your googly eyes and paint a mouth adding lines to look like stitches.
Use pink paint to make rosy cheeks!
Step 6
Add yellow on the blue overalls to be a shirt. Use black paint to outline the yellow and top of the overalls. Add clips on the shoulder and a bib pocket if you’d like.
Step 7
Hot glue a magnet to the back of the scarecrow. And you’re finished! We love scarecrow crafts.
Pumpkin Magnet
Step 1
On to our next easy craft which is the pumpkin magnet!
Grab 5 jumbo popsicle sticks and place them vertically.
Hot glue 5 jumbo popsicle sticks together by hot gluing 1 jumbo popsicle stick across the back of the others.
Cut 1 jumbo popsicle down and glue it to the back to keep your base together.
Step 2
Paint the popsicle sticks orange.
Step 3
Hot glue a piece of stick to the top of the pumpkin.
Step 4
Cut a pipe cleaner in half and roll it around your finger and then hot glue it to the back of the stick.
Step 5
Now, use some Elmer’s glue on some large googly eyes to your pumpkin and then paint on a smile, nose, and eyebrows.
Step 6
Finally, use hot glue to glue on a magnet. And you’re finished.
Farmer’s Market Stand Magnet
Step 1
Grab 4 popsicle sticks. There should be 3 on the bottom and 1 on the top.
Hot glue 3 jumbo popsicle sticks together by gluing to jumbo popsicle sticks on the left side of the horizontal 3 and on the ride side.
Step 2
Hot glue 1 jumbo popsicle stick horizontally at the top. Now you have your stand.
Step 3
Paint your stand brown.
Step 4
Trace out pumpkins on an orange piece of construction paper.
Cut them out and glue the paper pumpkins to your stand with the glue stick.
Step 5
Use your green glitter glue stick to make stems. Draw some black lines to give the pumpkins details.
Step 6
Cut out a long rectangle from your brown construction paper and write Farmer’s Market on it. Use your glue stick to stick it to your stand.
Step 7
Use hot glue to glue a magnet on the back. You’re finished!
Make This Fall Craft Your Own
Just like all our other crafts you can make this one your own! You can do things like:
- Adding more details. Add some straw hair, arms, and legs to the scarecrow.
- Make a lady scarecrow and pumpkin.
- Add more fall icons like woodland creatures (foxes, owls, and the such), acorns, pinecones, turkey, etc.
- Apples, acorns, squash, corn, would be great additions to a farmers market stand.
- Change up the scarecrow’s outfit.
- Instead of magnets use twine to hang them on the wall instead of the fridge.
- Make a fall wreath magnet.
- Forget the magnets, add another stick at the bottom and make puppets.
- Use Halloween icons instead and turn these into Halloween crafts.
- Make some that are leaf shape to make this into fall leaf crafts.
- You could make some fall trees with red, orange, and yellow leaves to make this a fun magnetic fall tree craft.
Our Experience With This Magnetic Fall Craft For Kids
We had so much fun making these fall magnets. This fall craft was so easy and fun to do. I did have to go ahead and glue some bases for the younger kids. But they were able to decorate them just fine.
I think this would be a fun craft for any season or holiday really. Make magnets based on popular icons. I think if we do this fall craft again, we would add some woodland critters, acorns, and maybe even leaves. We will see.
I like this idea, because I’ve been looking for some fresh fall craft ideas. Don’t get me wrong the handprint fall tree and fall garland is fun to make, but we’ve done it. I’m ready for new fun fall crafts and I think my kiddos (all of them the toddlers, preschoolers, and older kids) appreciated it.
Either way, we have some fall festive magnets on the fridge now, and we all love them. And we hope you love this craft as much as we did.
