Preschool Leaf Craft

I recently made this fun preschool tree craft with a class of 3 and 4-year-olds. We have been studying trees including collecting leaves from a local park. This was a great activity to discuss shapes, colors, and let them make something fun.

How to make our preschool tree craft

We are going to draw the shape of our favorite tree, and then attach real fall leaves to the shape to make our very own fall tree on construction paper.

Supplies needed to make our fall tree craft

  • Construction paper
  • Fall leaves
  • Crayon
  • School glue
  • Paintbrush (optional)
  • Small container (optional)

Instructions for making our fall tree craft

Step 1

Step 1 for our preschool tree craft is to draw a tree shape on paper using a crayon
Draw a circle, triangle, or oval on the construction paper to make your tree shape.

Take the kids outside to look at the shape of the trees. Are they round on the top? Maybe oval, or triangular shape? Have the kids draw the shape of their favorite tree on construction paper using a crayon. Make sure there’s a line for the ‘trunk’ of the tree too.

Step 2

Step 2 for making a preschool tree craft is to cover the triangle with school glue.
Use a paintbrush to put school glue all over the triangle.

We found that the least messy way for kids to do this step was to pour a small amount of school glue into a tub and give the kids a paintbrush to ‘paint’ the glue all over the shape.

Step 3

Step 3 for making a preschool tree craft is to attach fall leaves to the glue on the construction paper to make a tree shape.
Press leaves onto the glue and set your tree aside to dry.

Let your kids choose what color leaves they want to use. Maybe they want a yellow tree, a green tree, a red tree, or maybe they want a colorful tree. Have them gather leaves and press them onto the glue.
