Origami, the ancient art of paper folding, is not only fun but also a great way to improve your concentration and creativity. Plus, it’s a fantastic activity for kids of all ages as well as adults! It doesn’t have to be Halloween for us to make an origami pumpkin, so let’s get started!

Materials Needed:

  • One square sheet of paper
  • Black marker or pen

Step 1

Start with a square piece of paper.

Step 2

Fold the paper in half diagonally, then open it back up.

FOLDING AWAY.

Step 3

Fold it in half diagonally again in the other direction, and open.

mAKE SURE TO PRESS DOWN ON THE CREASES.

Step 4

Flip the paper over, and fold it in half lengthwise, then open.

lET’S WORK ON THE OTHER SIDE NOW.

FOLD IN HALF!

Step 6

Fold it in half in the opposite direction, but this time, keep it folded – don’t open it!

IT’S TIME TO FOLD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION.

Step 7

Squash the left and right sides together to create a smaller square shape. It takes a bit of practice but I’m sure you can do it!

ORIGAMI IS ALL ABOUT BEING PATIENT.

Step 8

Fold the bottom right corner to the middle line.

Step 9

Fold the top right corner to the middle line as well, on top of the previous fold.

Step 10

Flip that section to the left side.

Step 11

Flip the paper over. We’re halfway there!

Step 12

Repeat steps 8 and 9 on the left side.

remember that origami is not meant to be perfect.

instead, use this time to relax and decompress.

Step 13

Open up the layers from the back so that the two last folds are on top.

it’s okay if it’s not symmetrical!

Step 14

Flip the paper over.

We are almost done, you should be proud of yourself.

Step 15

Fold the right corner inward, about one inch in.

Step 16

Repeat the previous step on the left side.

Fold the bottom corner inward too. We are almost done! Yay!

Repeat the previous step on the top corner.

Step 19

Fold the top corner again, this time outwards – this will be our origami pumpkin’s stem!

Just one more fold!

Step 20

Flip the paper over one last time, and using your black marker or pen, add a smiley face and other details!
