I’m so excited to share a fun and budget-friendly to decorate your home: an origami lotus flower craft! This tutorial is perfect for kids of all ages as well as adults, offering a fun and creative activity for everyone to enjoy.
Why Is Origami Good For Kids?
Origami is more than a fun paper craft: it helps enhance fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination while encouraging patience and perseverance as they follow step-by-step instructions to complete a project.
Not only that, but origami also fosters creativity and imagination, allowing kids to experiment with different shapes and designs. Overall, it is a great activity for kids of all ages.
Follow this step-by-step guide to creating a beautiful origami lotus flower!
Step 1
Start with a square piece of paper, with the white side up.
Step 2
Fold in half diagonally, and unfold.
Step 3
Fold in half diagonally in the other direction.
Step 4
Turn your paper so it looks like a diamond, and then fold the bottom corner up to the center line.
Step 5
Repeat step 4 with the remaining corners.
Step 6
With your paper now looking square, fold each corner towards the middle.
Step 7
Flip the paper over.
step 8
Fold the corners inward as well, just like in step 6.
Step 9
Unfold just the last step, and then turn the paper over.
Step 10
Holding the top layer, take the top corner and fold it outwards, about an inch from the border.
Step 11
Repeat the previous step on the remaining sides, and make sure the proportions are equal everywhere!
Step 12
Flip the figure over.
Step 13
It’s time to get the final shape! Fold the top, bottom, left, and right sides inwards while slightly squash folding the corners next to them.
Step 14
Repeat on all sides, and make sure not to completely flatten the corners; they should be slightly bent.
Step 15
Now, flip the part over and take the flaps that are still on the back. Take the triangles and fold them upwards and then slightly outwards.
Step 16
Repeat on all sides until your origami lotus flower is finished.
Once you’ve mastered the basic origami lotus flower, try experimenting with different paper sizes and colors to create a variety of flowers. You can also glue glitter, sequins, or other decorations to add a personal touch.
