Do you love origami animals? Let’s learn how to make an adorable origami bunny! This tutorial is perfect for kids of all ages, as well as adults who find peace in folding paper figures. Grab a piece of paper and let’s get started!
Why Is Origami Good For Kids?
Origami is more than a fun paper craft: it helps enhance fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination while encouraging patience and perseverance as they follow step-by-step instructions to complete a project.
Not only that, but origami also fosters creativity and imagination, allowing kids to experiment with different shapes and designs. Overall, it is a great activity for kids of all ages.
Now, grab your paper and let’s get folding our own cute bunny friend!
Materials:
To get started, all you need is a square piece of paper. You can use any color or pattern you like to make your bunny unique!
Instructions:
Step 1:
Start with a square piece of paper.
Step 2:
Fold in half widthwise.
Step 3:
Open, and fold the top and bottom parts to the middle crease.
Step 4:
Open, and fold in half in the other direction.
Step 5:
Open and fold the left side and right side to the middle crease.
Step 6:
Open and fold diagonally.
Step 7:
Open and fold diagonally in the other direction.
Step 8:
Open again, and fold the left and right sides inward to the middle crease.
Step 9:
Open the bottom corners and squash fold them up to the middle, forming a diamond shape.
Step 10:
Turn over and flip upside down.
Step 11:
Take the top part and squash fold it down, so it will look like a diamond.
Step 12:
Flip over – let’s work on the other side!
Step 13:
Fold the top left and right parts to the middle crease, our figure will look similar to a paper plane now!
Step 14:
Fold the tip down – these flaps will become our rabbit’s ears.
Step 15:
Flip over.
Step 16:
Fold the top part down, just a little bit.
Step 17:
Fold in half lengthwise.
Step 18:
Holding the base carefully, pull the two triangle sections upwards to form the origami bunny’s head and ears.
Step 19:
Hold the base and fold to the left side, simultaneously pulling downwards so the borders aren’t flush.
Step 20:
Open the last fold and squash fold inwards.
Step 21:
Hold the last fold you did and carefully accordion fold the section in between the two flaps. This will create the rabbit’s back legs.
Step 22:
Fold the top right corner to the left side and then squash fold inwards. This will create the illusion of a round bunny.
Step 23:
Fold the ears down and then to the sides. Play around until you like the origami bunny’s ears’ position.
Step 24:
Your origami rabbit is all done! Use a marker to make the eyes and add other details. So adorable!
