Welcome to our fun and easy origami rose tutorial! Origami is the art of paper folding, and today we’re going to learn how to make a beautiful rose out of a simple square piece of paper. This tutorial is perfect for kids as well as adults. Let’s get started!
WHY IS ORIGAMI GOOD FOR KIDS?
Origami is more than a fun paper craft: it helps enhance fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination while encouraging patience and perseverance as they follow step-by-step instructions to complete a project.
Not only that, but origami also fosters creativity and imagination, allowing kids to experiment with different shapes and designs. Overall, it is a great activity for kids of all ages.
Now, grab your paper and let’s get folding our own origami roses!
Step 1
Start with a square piece of paper with the colored side facing up.
Step 2
Fold the paper in half downwards, then unfold it.
Step 3
Fold it in half from left to right, then unfold it again.
Step 4
Open the paper and rotate it until one of the corners is pointing upwards.
Step 5
Fold the paper in half diagonally from the top corner to the bottom corner, then unfold it.
Step 6
Fold the paper in half diagonally in the other direction, then unfold it again.
Step 7
Open the paper with the white side facing up and rotate it until it looks like a square again.
Step 8
Squash fold the paper on the sides and push the top down to create a triangle shape.
Step 9
Fold the top layers on the sides upwards towards the tip.
Step 10
Working on the top layer on the right side, put your finger in between the layers and squash fold the top part down to create a square shape. Repeat on the left side.
Step 11
Fold the inner corners of the previous sections outwards.
Step 12
Fold the section between the two folded sections upwards
Step 13
Pull the left and right folds together and flatten them to create a triangle shape.
Step 14
Fold the top layer of both the left and right sides up to the center line, then fold the middle corner up.
Step 15
Repeat step 14 on the other side.
Step 16
Take the left and right sides and pull them together, then flatten it to the left side so your figure will look like this.
Step 17
In the bottom section, fold the top layer of both the left and right sides up to the center line, then fold the middle corner up.
Step 18
Turn over, and repeat step 17 on the other side.
Step 19
Pull the two sides apart and flatten the section in between them. Once flattened, it will look like a square as shown in the picture.
Step 20
Flip to the other side, and put your middle finger in between the top left and right flaps, and your middle finger in the section below it. Use your fingers to press down and make hollow spaces in these areas.
Step 21
Using your index and middle fingers, as well as your thumb, hold that same section and twist! Keep twisting until you have a rose shape.
Your origami rose is now complete! Experiment with different colors and sizes of paper to create a bouquet of beautiful roses.

Once you’ve mastered the basic origami rose, try experimenting with different paper sizes and colors. You can also glue glitter, sequins, or other decorations to add a personal touch.
