Our Experience Making Ovaltine Rice Krispie Treats

All through my childhood, my mom would make cookie plates to give away through the holiday season.   She would make 3 or 4 different kinds of cookies so all the plates had variety.   Each year she would try a new recipe and some years it would become a staple on the cookie plate, and sometimes it would disappear never to be made again.

  1. i remember one year in 1992 when my son Kenny and i were at mom’s and of course she spoiled him like all grandmas. The look on his face as he opened his gifts is what i remember the most .his excitement touched me.

  2. One of my favorite holiday memories is making this elaborate pie from Victoria magazine back when I was about 18 years old (I’m an old soul). It had this dome made from boiled sugar…you know at the hard crack stage. I did something wrong and the dome wouldn’t come off the bowl to be placed atop the pie. I broke down and cried. My mom (trying not to laugh) showed me that I could crack it and sprinkle it on top of the pie. Everyone loved it. It tasted very good. All I can remember is that it was a cold/frozen type pie with a hazelnut crust. I can’t find it in the archives as hard as I look. I laugh at myself when I think how devastated I was that the dome didn’t come out. You know that was a big part of the presentation.

  3. One holiday I tried to make a big meal and everything burned! I cried. Dh took us to a restaurant. I still haven’t made another big one as yet.

  4. I absolutely adore the holidays! One of my favorite holiday memories is baking cookies for Santa with my much younger little sister, and then setting out presents and eating the cookies with my Mom after my sister went to sleep in Christmas Eve ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. Spending Christmas day 2009 with my week-old son Gavin and my husband. It was just the three of us and that was the same year that we had a white Christmas!

  6. Holidays have always been hard on me. Between all the emotional up roar, extra work and families not always being their best at this time…..It was something I had to learn to deal with. Now in lil steps one at a time I am beginning to see the pleasure in holidays. And my favorite so far has been the holiday breakfast. Time to sit with family, sip our drinks and enjoy a meal as we anticipate the day to come.
