- Dairy
- Soy Ingredients
- Potentially Wheat
Ovaltine contains nonfat milk and whey. Alongside dairy, it does have soy lecithin. While soy lecithin is a binder and most people won’t have a reaction, those of us who do have soy allergies can still get upset tummies and hives from it.
It does not contain wheat, but is processed on equipment that also processes wheat.
Is Ovaltine Good For You?
Now that you know what’s in it, some of you may be wondering…is Ovaltine good for you?
Yes! Compared to other chocolate milk drinks it is pretty good for you. Should you drink it all day? Probably not! But it’s okay to have a glass with supper. It makes the 8-ounce cup of milk a tasty treat, which is why it is a trusted family favorite.
Slate even had something to save about Ovaltine:
Ovaltine may not have solved the planet’s nutrition woes, but it is a lot more wholesome than such sweet rivals as Yoo-hoo and Nesquik. Four teaspoons of Ovaltine mixed with 8 ounces of skim milk provides a solid helping of vitamins A, C, D, B1, B2, and B6, as well as niacin and, yes, that all-important phosphorous.
Where Can I Buy Ovaltine?
Most grocery stores carry Ovaltine like Walmart, Target, Kroger. But you can also get it here! This post contains affiliate links.
