We are making preschool weather art today together. Let’s take a look out the window and let’s create weather art together! Our fun and easy weather art for preschoolers and kindergarten-aged kids is perfect for recreating the weather outside the home or classroom.
Weather Learning for Kids
We’ve been discussing the weather and meteorologists at school. One of the jobs the kids do each morning is to look out the window and see what the weather is like. So, I had them paint what it looked like using cotton balls. That particular day it was cloudy and rainy. I gave them black and white paint and they learned that if they mixed it together it made grey.

How to make weather art
Take a look outside. Is it sunny, cloudy, rainy, or storming, or maybe there is snow falling? Have kids paint what they see. Give them basic colors to use so that they can experiment mixing colors together, such as black and white to make grey, and red and yellow to make orange.
Supplies needed to make weather art
- Construction paper – black for night, blue for daytime
- Paint
- Cotton balls
- Clothes peg
Instructions for making weather art
Step 1
Pick up a cotton ball with your peg. Dip the cotton ball into the paint and begin painting the weather outside onto your construction paper.
Kids can experiment with mixing colors like black and white together to make grey clouds, or red and yellow together for the sun.
Step 2
To make raindrops on your rainy day weather art, dip your fingers into the paint and fingerpaint raindrops onto the construction paper. Kids will love getting messy with this step.
