The seats at Yankee Stadium may be empty for the near future. But the home to the New York Yankees baseball team is turning into something new, at least for the summer: a drive-in movie theater and concert venue.
Outdoor movie going may seem like a relic from the past, but with social distancing still recommended, places all over the country are bringing back the old-fashioned fun.
The makeshift theater at Yankee Stadium promises to take it to a whole new level of fun.
How the Yankee Stadium Drive-In Will Work
It’s safe to say most everyone misses socializing and going out and about. We want to return to restaurants and movies… but we also want to do it safely. Enter: drive-in movie theaters.
According to Time Out New York, the experience will actually be much more than just an outdoor movie theater.
Led by the MASC Hospitality Group, the outdoor event is being called the Uptown Drive-In. It will actually be more like a carnival with movies along with live musical entertainment from NYC performers, raffles, giveaways, and even games… all to be enjoyed from the safety of your car.
You can even get food delivered by street vendors right to your car window!
The whole event will take place in the largest parking lot of Yankee Stadium. To ensure everyone has the best seat in the house, they’re erecting a lifted stage. But how will the sound work? They’ve figured that out too; they’ll stream the entertainment from a PA system to the car radios.
This isn’t quite the outdoor moviegoing experience of old, but it sure sounds creative, and I bet New Yorkers will flock to it… all while staying 10 feet apart in their cars.
The drive-in festival is planned for every weekend in July. To get all the details, join the mailing list here.
