Everything is coming up Green at our house. I thought it would be fun to make our own St Patty’s Day leprechaun trap and celebrate everything green in honor of the upcoming holiday. This simple leprechaun trap is easy to make with stuff you already have at home or with a group of kids in the classroom.

Celebrating St Patricks Day with Kids

Naturally, it’s time to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. We have been reading up a bit on the wee little folk; Leprechauns!

We have read leprechaun books, chatted about leprechauns and then made a leprechaun trap. We hope to trap one of these tricky little leprechauns for ourselves. Who knows….Maybe we’ll get a Pot of Gold?

DIY Leprechaun Trap

A leprechaun can not resist o’ bit of fun…so we have decided to build him a rock wall for him to climb.

Leprechauns do like fun, but remember it is tough to trick a tricky one!

Supplies Needed for DIY Leprechaun Trap with Climbing Wall

shoe box or empty cereal box
acrylic paint – we used green, brown and black
paint brush
moss
rocks
glue or hot glue and glue gun
scissors
leprechaun decorations

Directions for DIY Climbing Wall Leprechaun Trap Craft

Create a trap door in the back of your shoe box or cereal box that will trap the leprechaun with scissors.
Paint your box green with acrylic paint. Add darker colors to make it look more like a real outdoor rocky climbing wall. We added brown and parts of black.
Let your box dry.
Glue moss and climbing rocks in a way that a leprechaun can climb them.
