Do It Yourself Gifts
We have given and received gifts of Goop Ingredients, Mask Making Kits, Monster Playdough Supplies, Cookies in a Jar and many more! We thought it would be fun to make a craft kit with sparkly salt dough that can be baked into pretend cookies.
Today we are featuring the Country Crock tubs that we use to store (and gift) the activity kits at our house. We go through lots of spread over here and have LOTS of tubs.
They are so versatile!
To remove the image from the side of your spread tubs you will need acetone (nail polish remover) and a rag. The ink comes right off with just a rub!
Be sure to rinse your tub with very hot water after you remove the ink.
If you want to have removable labels stating the contents of your tub, use a dry erase marker. For the meals we have stored in the freezer I write the contents on the lid, and wipe after you eat that meal – it is great on busy days to have something we can just pull-out and reheat.
Country Crock has a recipe book filled with fun kid-friendly meals ideas that you can make with their spread (and later store) in their tubs.
Make a Craft Kit
To make your own sparkly salt dough craft kit for kids you will need:
- 1 cup of salt
- 1/2 cup of flour
- 1/4 cup of water
- Glitter – fine is best.
Mix the ingredients together. If they are still dry, add more water by the teaspoonful. Let the dough sit at room temperature for about an hour so it becomes more smooth before beginning to work with the dough.
At this point you can seal it into a plastic bag and add it to your craft kit with instructions as to how to play and bake:
Roll the dough out like you would cookies. Remove carefully and bake at 250 degrees for 15 min.
We have a convection oven, so the times might be a little different with a regular oven or dependent on the thickness of the end product.

Homemade Gifts
Have you made an activity kit as a gift for a child?
Do you have any ideas on other activity kits we can make? I’d love to hear about them!
Thanks again to Country Crock for sponsoring this post – we love their spread, low in saturated fats and loved by my dairy intolerant kiddos.

We find that a wet erase marker works even better for things like this. It is less likely to accidentally rub off but comes off easily with a wet cloth (or in the dishwasher).
That is absolutely brilliant!!
Do you know if the acetone nail polish remover works with other containers? I tried a yogurt container and it didn’t work. Any suggestions?
I really have only had luck with the Country Crock brand… it is why the majority of our tupperware cabinet it filled with spread tubs. If you find another brand that works well, come back and let us know!!
Usually I don’t read post on blogs, but I wish to say that this write-up very pressured me to check out and do it! Your writing taste has been amazed me. Thanks, very great article.
