There is nothing better than Homemade Apple Pie in the fall. I could literally just live on them in the months of September and October. Today we are sharing a super special recipe (and a video story) about How to make apple pie and see the world.
It all started when we read the book (How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World affiliate link). If you haven’t read it yet. You should. It’s just brilliant on so many levels.
Not only it’s fun to read it is also a perfect educational tool for teachers and for parents. Check out How to make an apple pie and see the world activities for some really cool ideas how to turn this into a fun learning process.
Now let’s start from getting the ingredients. We want only the best ones for our apple pie. So what did we do? We traveled the world to get them.
See our video and explore the world together with Sofia.
After we gather all the ingredients it’s time to bake the homemade apple pie.
It is actually pretty easy to make this apple pie. I have made quite few (or more than that ) apple pies in my life and I believe that specifically ice water is the secret for the perfect crust of apple pie.
Watch this video as Sofia explains and shows everything in detail. Get the kiddos to the kitchen, find those little aprons and let’s bake some pie!
The video is pretty explanatory, but in case you missed something here is the written version.
Ingredients for your homemade apple pie crust :
- Stir the flour and the salt in the bowl.
- Rub in small pieces of butter into flour mixture.
- Add ice water.
- Divide dough in half and make 2 patties.
- Place 1 patty between 2 pieces of wax paper and roll into a circle that would fit in to pie pan.
- Do the same thing with other patty.
- Refrigerate both.
Homemade Apple Pie filling
Peel, core and cut apples. In a large bowl add sugar, cinnamon and salt. Pour cut apples into sugar mixture. Mix well
Add the apple filling into the pan with the patty already laid in it. Make sure to put more apples in the center of the pan. Add some butter and cover with the second rolled out patty. Pinch (and twist a little) the sides of both patties together to “close” the pie.
To glaze the crust use a mixture of 1 egg yolk and 1 teaspoon of water. Brush it well on the crust.
Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake at 425F for at least 45 minutes or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
Invite your friends and enjoy!
Tell them how you traveled the world to get all the best ingredients for this homemade apple pie!
