KC Edventures

We are interviewing Jacquie  today to find out about the mom behind KC Edventures. Why did you begin blogging? I curate/write a local travel/attraction blog in Kansas City and had so many ideas for things that families could do at home focused on reading, connecting with each other and learning about the world that just didn’t ‘fit’ with my current website. So, I decided to start a blog about ‘edventures’ – learning adventures you have/do with your kids (both big and little). What do you hope to inspire in the parents who read your blog? Our blog’s motto is “keep kids curious, creative & connected to the world around them” – I strive to give parents/grandparents/educators resources and ideas to achieve this with their kids. My hope is that with all the technology we have all around us, that we can inspire families to also include books, hands-on play, face-to-face conversations and travel in their kids’ lives. What is it like to live in your home? I have a son (age 15) and a daughter (age 9) who, if they weren’t my kids, I would want for friends. They both have great personalities and are very fun to be with — which is probably why I look forward to school breaks and summer vacations. We always plan these great things to do together.
  • My son can be watching youtube or playing minecraft one minute and then launch into this lengthy discussion about space exploration and black holes the next. I also think he’s got a great eye for photography.
  • My daughter is the most positive, energetic kids you would ever meet. She keeps us all upbeat if we’re having a bad day, and is a total bookworm (she chooses characters from books for her Halloween costumes.) What I love most about her is that she’s so comfortable being herself – others don’t sway how she thinks or acts (which I so hope continues into her teen years).
KC Edventures What are your kids favorite activities? We LOVE exploring new places – a park, museum, new exhibit it town, etc. A close second is reading great kids literature! What is important to YOU as a blogger? I love nature and being outside – and think it’s so important for kids and families.  I also believe that having kids books in the house and reading aloud with your kids makes a huge impact in developing their curiosity, creativity and academic skills. What is your advice to readers? Every child is different – they each have their own skills, talents and interests – let them explore what they are interested in and you will see them shine!
