Becky Morales developed
Kid World Citizen to be able to share the educational activities that she have used in my classroom and at home with her 4 children to increase global and cultural awareness. On Kid World Citizen, you will find an ever-expanding database of age-appropriate, fun activities gathered from around the world that are organized by topic and by country. Becky presents a range of materials, including games, international celebrations, recipes that please even the most discerning tummies, cultural art projects, endless reviews on children's literature related to world cultures, and many other activities that help
cultivate and expand young minds.
Kid World Citizen
We are interviewing Becky Morales today to find out about the mom behind Kid World Citizen.
Why did you begin blogging?
We are a bilingual (Spanish-English, learning Chinese), multicultural, adoptive family with roots from the US, Mexico, China, and Ethiopia. I developed kidworldcitizen.org to be able to share the educational activities that I have used in my classroom and at home: games, international celebrations, recipes, cultural art projects, endless reviews on children's literature related to world cultures, and many other activities (organized by country and topic) that help cultivate and expand young minds.
I love to network with others who are globally-minded!
What do you hope to inspire in the parents who read your blog?
Through activities that help parents and teachers teach their kids about the world; I aspire to highlight world cultures and increase global awareness in families and schools because I believe culturally competent kids will grow up to be compassionate adults.
What is it like to live in your home?
I have four kids: Smiley Toñito is 8 and loves sports, especially soccer. He was born in (and is adopted from) China. Viviana is also 8 (3 months younger) and is my animal-loving, kind-hearted, sporty girl. Maya is 5 and just started kindergarten. She is my sweet, cuddly girl who would love to be carried and snuggled with 24 hours a day. Ricky is also 5 (1 month younger) and is the most curious and inquisitive child you will ever meet. He was born (and is adopted from) Ethiopia.
What are your kids favorite activities?
My kids all love soccer and swimming, playing outside, cooking, and doing art projects! I love to work on big cooking, art, or science projects with them because we’re spending time together having fun, and accomplishing a goal at the same time. I love watching them discover something new or figure out why something works as it does.
What is your advice to readers?
Your house can wait, but kids grow up fast:).
