Crafting Tips and Tricks
My craft room gets out of control. We do so many crafts at home and I hoard craft supplies. And so many of these came from trying to organize and make craft time easier, cleaner, and not waste items.
I found while crafting there is a lot of waste and so I wanted to minimize that. So, hopefully you guys can use some of these to organize your crafts and eliminate wasting craft supplies!

Craft Tips
These are great ways to save supplies, things to save for later crafts, and ways to make crafting easier.
1. Save Paper Scraps

A lot of times we end up cutting out small items or cutting pictures out of paper and construction paper. You can recycle it. But we have a basket of scrap paper. So if we need to make another small item or cut off another small piece of paper we don’t have to use a whole knew page.
2. Save Toilet Paper Rolls and Paper Towel Rolls

Many of our crafts require cardboard tubes. So we have a basket dedicated for these items. Can you buy them in bulk? Yes, why do that when you have them at home?
3. Empty Jar For Glitter

Glitter is something else we use a lot of. And it’s in excess at times because you want the glue to be covered and that. That means a lot of wasted glitter. And glitter is too wonderful a thing to waste. So, I keep an empty jar to keep my excess glitter in. Is it mixed in? Yes! But I’ll find a way to use it. If you’re using just 1 color glitter you can always add it back to the jar.
4. Reuse Tissue Paper

Sometimes we get gift bags that have tissue paper in them. If the tissue paper is too wrinkly to be used again I’ll use it for crafts. It doesn’t have to be perfect and half the time we’re scrunching it up anyway.
5. Dollar Tree Is A Great Place For Craft Supplies

If you’re on a budget and you have a Dollar Tree…go there! They have so many cute things. I know we’re all upset the prices have gone up…but so has the items and quality of the items you can get there. You can get things like canvas, wood, yarn, paints, glitter, stickers, and more.
6. Cover The Table

You know what you can get fairly cheap? Vinyl table cloths, shower curtains, poster board, foam sheets. These are great for doing crafts on to save the table.
7. Break Down and Save Boxes

Sometimes cardstock would work better for a craft. And sometimes I have it on hand. But a lot of times I don’t. So I break down some boxes and keep them in a bin for crafts when we need cardboard or something sturdy for a craft.
8. Plastic Platters Make Great Paint Plates

We don’t actually use paint palettes. If we don’t have scraps of paper plates available, we bust out some plastic platters I got from the Dollar Tree (not the ones linked) and use those. They’re large, there is plenty of room. You can wash them, peel the paint off, and reuse them. Good stuff.
9. Salt and Pepper Shakers For Glitter

Not all glitter bottles have a nice shaker at the top. Some are just open. If you have an open container a salt and pepper shaker will be your best friend. Whether you saved cardboard ones or bought some…it will make a huge difference and save glitter when it comes to smaller children.

10. Reuse Paper Plates

A lot of our crafts use only a portion of a paper plate. Use the other quarter or half a paper plate as a paint plate. If I don’t use it for a paint plate at the time I’ll save it for later.
11. Save Old Shirts

Got old shirts that aren’t good enough to give away? Then use them for crafts! They make great craft shirts for kids so they don’t get paint and markers or whatever else on their good clothes.
12. Keep Playdough On Hand

Glitter is wonderful. Until it’s spilled. Yes you can sweep it, vacuum it, but many times it still remains. Guess what gets it pretty easily especially if it is fine? Playdough. Use playdough to clean up glitter.
13. Shoe Organizer For Crafts

Did you know a shoe organizer is great for keeping craft supplies order? Each pocket can hold glue, scissors, small boxes of crayons, paint, pom poms, etc.
14. Make Your Own Organizer

You can also make your own organizer for your child’s supplies using cardboard. No joke. My kids each have one and I even have one. You can learn to make the craft organizer here.
15. Keep White Paint On Hand

Sometimes while painting you’ll find that certain paints don’t work well on different textures or may look dull. Paint a layer of white paint on it first and then the color. This is usually great for colors like bright yellow, green, red, blue, etc.
16. Rulers and Stencils

Always keep rulers and stencils on hand. Sometimes you need that perfect line, perfect square, perfect circle for a craft and free handing it can sometimes be a pain.
