These lantern houses are so easy to make and only takes 6 steps and minimal craft supplies. Many of which you can get at the Dollar Tree including the LED tea light candles. This craft is not only simple, and budget-friendly, but also promotes pretend play, and is a great way for kids to practice fine motor skills. Download and print our lantern house templates now:

Supplies Needed For This Lantern House Craft

How To Put Together This House Lantern Craft

These instructions come with the printable template.

Step 1

Cut on the solid lines and then fold on the dashed lines.

Step 2

We’re going to work on the first floor.

Glue the ground floor into a box shape. Leave the top open.

Step 3

Put your tea candle inside the ground floor.

Step 4

Now it is time to work on the second floor.

Glue together the second floor and make sure the bottom of the second floor fits onto the ground floor.

Step 5

Put together the roof and attach it to the second floor.

Step 6

Have fun with your house lantern!

How To Promote Pretend Play With These Lantern Houses

Now it’s time to play with your paper houses!

You can use these houses to create a mini town, village, or neighborhood and allow your child to use small dolls, action figures, toy animals, or even cars to play and create an imaginative world of their own.

It’s very similar to our pretend play city, but this one is neat because the houses glow! Which will allow your child to play in a darker room giving them new ways to engage in pretend play.
