Like most kids, my son has been out of school for the past week. Normally, he likes being at home so while he isn’t going stir crazy yet, I know that he is missing his friends from school, as well as his teachers. Some teachers around the country know that most kids didn’t even get to say goodbye and they’re doing something about it. Teachers are Driving Through Neighborhoods in a Parade to Wave at Kids and Families Standing in their Driveways At Bette Perot Elementary in Forth Worth, TX, teachers got into their individual cars and went up and down the streets of their school zone, honking and waving as they went. Since they posted the route on their Facebook page, kids were able to hang out on their front porches or in their front yard and wave as their teachers went by. Some families even made signs to show their love and support to the teachers. The teachers from Robertson Elementary in Little Elm, TX seem to have started the trend on social media. Heather Kestila posted a video of teachers from that school driving past her house and the video shows her daughter waving back to them, holding a sign for all of them to see. The post includes a hashtag, #teacherparadechallenge?, which is now being used on social media for other schools and teachers to use to spread love to their students. Heather’s post has been viewed over 6 million times leading me to believe that more and more teachers will be using this time to surprise their students and both student and teachers will be able to share a special moment, even from a distance.  Teachers are Driving Through Neighborhoods in a Parade to Wave at Kids and Families Standing in their Driveways In another post, Heather Whisman shared that the teachers and students from their local school had a parade. She wrote, “Today Northwest teachers threw the students a parade Covid-19 style.” All the kids dressed up as superheroes in honor of everyone working in hospitals, in the grocery stores, the first responders and all others that are consider essential workers. What a great idea to have the community come together in this way!
