For the last year Barbie has been on a mission to make girls everywhere feel included. They have done through a new line of diverse dolls. So far, they have released a doll in a wheelchair. The company has also released a gender neutral doll collection.

Now, they just released a new doll with a skin condition called “Vitiligo’.

Vitiligo is a skin disease that causes the loss of skin color in blotches. It is more noticeable in people with darker skin which may be why they chose to make the barbie with darker skin coloration.

Overall, the new line of diverse dolls are described as:

“Barbie Fashionistas celebrate diversity with unique fashion dolls that encourage real-world storytelling and open-ended dreams. With a wide variety of skin tones, eye colors, hair colors and textures, body types and fashions, the Fashionistas dolls are designed to reflect the world girls see today, offering them infinite ways to play out stories and express their style. Includes Barbie Fashionistas doll wearing fashions and accessories. Each sold separately, subject to availability. Barbie dolls cannot stand alone. Flat shoes fit dolls with articulated ankles or flat feet. Colors and decorations may vary.”

These dolls are meant for girls to feel comfortable with who they are and I am forever grateful Barbie is making that message loud and clear with these dolls. Goodbye perfect bodied Barbie’s and hello, real and authentic Barbie’s!

This Vitiligo Barbie is available for purchase right now on Amazon and comes as shown below.

In addition to this new Barbie, there are plans to release a Barbie with No Hair, a darker skined Barbie with a prosthetic leg and a new Ken Doll with longer hair. I am sure we will see even more Dolls emerge later this year.
