We are interviewing Erin today to find out about the mom behind The Usual Mayhem. Why did you begin blogging? About 3 years ago I casually started blogging. Now over the past year I blog more and more on life, kids and homeschooling. What do you hope to inspire in the parents who read your blog? I’d like my readers to see that parenting and homeschooling isn’t always perfect. Through my blog post, I want them to see that our children are often capable of a lot more than we give them credit for. I want to instill a love of and respect for nature in all seasons. What is it like to live in your home? I have three children. K, my oldest son, is 20, a little shy, and was homeschooled from age 12 onwards. He is my right hand, a gentle giant, and a total kid magnet. He’s a hands-on learner. He graduated but is still voluntarily doing some courses. He’s his own worst critic and never gives himself the credit he deserves for the hard work he puts in. My daughter is 12 going on 30. She is beautiful, confident, and very logical. She teaches herself more in her spare time than I could teach her in a lifetime. She is always the first one to offer help. She is also, emotionally, a typical tween and can roll her eyes until I think they’ll shake loose. My youngest, D, is 5. He’s a human canonball, fearless and very funny. He and K come as a team and have since the day he was born. He learns things by osmosis, as far as we can tell, and resists most formal education.

What are your kids favorite activities? We hike. We go almost every day, anywhere we are and in all weather conditions because as a group we are a very high energy bunch! We love that even if we go to the same 3 or 4 places, it’s never the same twice and we learn so much while we wander. What is important to YOU as a blogger? That alone will improve your day by 100%.
