  1. Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was an American poet and is one of the most important figures in American poetry.
  2. She was born on December 10, 1830, in the town of Amherst, Massachusetts, and died on May 15, 1886, in the same town.
  3. Her poetry was completely unique and her writing style didn’t follow strict literary and grammar rules.
  4. Emily Dickinson attended Mount Holyoke Female Seminary, a prestigious women’s college in Massachusetts, where she studied for one year.
  5. Her honest writing style made her one of the early feminist voices in the writing world.

Emily Dickinson is one of the best writers of our times.
  1. Themes of death were prevalent in Emily Dickinson’s poetry, and she also explored the topics of nature, religion, law, and music.
  2. Only 10 of Dickinson’s poems were published while she was alive.
  3. Her first collection of poetry was published in 1890 by Thomas Wentworth Higginson and Mabel Loomis Todd, although they were heavily edited.
  4. She suffered from multiple health problems but it’s difficult to determine what exactly she suffered from as she rarely left home.
  5. Samuel Dickinson, her paternal grandfather, had the family home built in the 19th century where she lived almost her entire life until Amherst College bought it to transform it into the Emily Dickinson Museum.
