Thomas Edison facts FOR KIDS

  1. Thomas Alva Edison was an American inventor born in Milan, Ohio, in 1847, but he spent most of his childhood in Port Huron, Michigan. He died on October 18, 1931, West Orange, New Jersey.
  2. At an early age, he experienced hearing loss but he wasn’t completely deaf.
  3. In 1869, Edison worked as a telegraph operator in Newark, New Jersey, before moving to Boston and then to New York City.
  4. His first invention to receive a patent was the electric vote recorder, in June 1869.
  5. Thomas Edison invented the phonograph in 1877, and it quickly became the most popular home entertainment device of the century.

  1. Edison’s most notable invention was the motion picture camera, known as the kinetograph, which he patented in 1891. He played a significant role in the development of motion pictures and the film industry in the United States.
  2. In 1876, Edison established the world’s first industrial research laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey. This laboratory became known as the “Invention Factory” and was the birthplace of numerous inventions.
  3. Edison was a prolific inventor and held over 1,000 patents, including the incandescent light bulb, phonograph, and alkaline storage battery.
  4. He faced legal battles over the patent for some of his inventions, including notable disputes with other inventors such as industry leader Nikola Tesla.
  5. Edison developed a complete power system, including the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity, which revolutionized the way people lived and worked.
