  1. There are over 10,000 known species of birds on Earth, ranging from tiny bee hummingbirds to large ostriches.
  2. The kiwi is the only bird species with nostrils at the end of its beak.
  3. Some bird species have been known to recognize individual human faces and even mimic human speech, like the African gray parrot and the songbirds. The most talkative bird species is the African gray parrot.
  4. North America is home to a diverse range of bird species, including bald eagles, blue jays, and woodpeckers.
  5. The bee hummingbird, found only in Cuba, is the smallest bird species in the world, measuring only 2.25 inches in length.

  • Emperor penguins are the tallest and heaviest of all living penguin species.
