Musical Theater Activities For Kids
Your kids can experience a free online Broadway theater course that would normally be in-person at home. It is literally The Lion King Online with instruction!
While in-person theater and drama classes are currently on hold for some, many local theaters and production companies are putting classes online to provide students with a unique experience.
Now Disney’s The Lion King on Broadway is joining in, and offering The Lion King Experience for free online.
Lion King Theater Class Online
Typically, this program is used for schools that are performing either The Lion King Kids Edition (elementary school) or The Lion King Junior (middle school) at their schools and includes lesson plans that fit in with classroom curriculum.
Lessons options include Acting, Design, Music, Playwriting, Choreography, and more.
Disney Theater Online Curriculum
Disney has added new curriculum options, available for free for parents to use at home with their children.
The new online choices allow parents to use The Lion King Experience video clips and lesson plans, already adapted for at-home learning versus a classroom.
Lion King Online Theater Class Lessons
Each lesson is introduced in a video clip by Jelani Remy and Syndee Winters, who starred in The Lion King on Broadway.
Each segment is follow by a related project, such as a drawing a birthday card for Simba or creating an original song, mask, or lighting idea.
Kids also keep a journal to share their work with others.
Throughout the day on April 27th, Disney on Broadway will also offered live content on its Instagram to celebrate the Lion King and other Disney on Broadway musicals.
I am sure this is going to be something kids are going to love!
Theater Online Resources For Lesson Plans and Classrooms
Are you a teacher or homeschool? They also have courses you can purchase. There are actually 2 different courses.
- Kids Edition
- JR. Edition
Now the young people in your classrooms can enjoy theater games, play acting games, improvisation game, and put on a live performance!
It’s a fun way to teach, but in more creative ways. The theater, literature, and emotion all go hand in hand.
Kids Edition Theater Lessons
Kids edition is for young children, but are still classes done by professional artists.
What comes with the Kids Edition? You still get the 11 sessions and get to go through backstage access and instruction.
But you break off into 3 different prides to learn and practice different creative challenges like body language, projecting, and dance classes, and other theatre activities, and practicing appropriate facial expressions.
Of course this will be based on class size, each class may not have enough for 3 prides.
In addition, you will also get a 30-minute adaptation of the Lion King that is appropriate for elementary aged students and a show kit.
This is perfect for students in 3rd grade to 6th grade.
Jr Edition Theater Lessons
This is perfect for older students from middle school to maybe younger high school students.
You get 18 sessions with backstage access and instruction. Again you will work in 3 prides, but gather a lot more skills and deal with even more challenging creative activities.
In the Jr Edition, you actually get a 60 minute adaptation of the Lion King along with a show kit. How exciting!
Does your school not have the budget for for these theater lessons? No problem!
The Lion King Experience actually has a grant program for schools!
