This mermaid tail suncatcher is perfect for summer! One of our favorite summer crafts is homemade suncatchers. They are so easy to make and the colors are so pretty with summer sunlight shining through. This year, we decided to make a summer-themed suncatcher — the Mermaid Tail Suncatcher! We used a homemade sugar glue recipe from our partner, Imperial Sugar, to make this craft one-of-a-kind. I love using ingredients from our kitchen in crafts to teach kids that they can truly utilize anything to get creative! Mermaid Tail Suncatcher

Mermaid Tail Suncatcher

Here’s what you need to make our Mermaid Tail Suncatcher:
  • White cardstock paper
  • Tissue paper
  • Scissors
  • Homemade sugar glue (recipe below)
  • Paint brushes
  • Tape
Start by printing the Mermaid Tail Suncatcher printable (click the pink button above to get it), onto the white cardstock. Use the scissors to cut out the tail and seashell from the white paper, so only the black outline remains. Cut the tissue paper into pieces just bigger than the different sections of the mermaid tail scales. Use a paint brush to apply homemade sugar glue to the back of the mermaid tail cut out and press a piece of tissue paper onto it. Gently tear the excess tissue paper from around each scale so no colors overlap. Repeat with remaining scales until your mermaid tail is completely covered. Repeat the process with the seashell. mermaid tail tissue paper suncatcher Use clear tape to affix your Mermaid Tail Suncatcher to a window, and enjoy the beautiful colors!
