Today we have a Bible Craft: Jesus fed the 5000. Kids of all ages can learn about Jesus feeding a crowd of 5000 using only 2 fish and five loaves of bread. Sounds impossible, but nothing is impossible with God. Kids will be able to make a craft to go alongside the Bible story. Do this Bible craft at home, in the classroom, or Sunday school.

Jesus Feeds The 5000 Bible Story

In case you aren’t familiar with the story you can find it in the Bible at:

  • Matthew 14:13-21
  • Mark 6:30-44
  • Luke 9:12-17
  • John 6:1-14

We used John 6:1-14 for this craft. The NIV version says:

Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias), and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the signs he had performed by healing the sick. Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples. The Jewish Passover Festival was near.

When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, โ€œWhere shall we buy bread for these people to eat?โ€ He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.

Philip answered him, โ€œIt would take more than half a yearโ€™s wages[a] to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!โ€

Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peterโ€™s brother, spoke up, โ€œHere is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?โ€

10 Jesus said, โ€œHave the people sit down.โ€ There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). 11 Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.

12 When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, โ€œGather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.โ€ 13 So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.

14 After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, โ€œSurely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.โ€

Isn’t that amazing? He fed all those people and there was leftover! What a miracle!

Our Experience With This Bible Craft For Kids

I help run Sunday school at my local church and we often need crafts and printables. Well, we were learning about Jesus feeding the 5000 and I had to figure out a craft that kids preschool through 5th grade could do. This is what we did.

We of course had wet wipes and art aprons ready. We weren’t trying to ruin everyone’s Sunday best.

But the kids had a fun time and we had so many different colors of fish. I hope this helps you teach your child about the Bible.
