Runzas originated from Nebraska, and it’s such a loooong way from our home. But when my husband craves for it, what do I do? Make some right in our kitchen, of course! This traditional runzas recipe is so good it will give you a nice Nebraskan feel! And now to this yummy recipe!

Tasty Traditional Runzas recipe ingredients

Bread Dough

  • 1 1/4 cup of milk
  • 2 T of butter
  • 2 T of sugar
  • 1 t of salt
  • 3 cups of flour
  • 2 1/2 t active dry yeast

Filling

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 envelope onion soup mix and some
  • 1/2 head of cabbage shredded

Instructions in making our Traditional runzas recipe

Step 1

Follow instructions to prepare the bread in a bread machine.

Step 2

Brown the beef and add the onion soup mix.

Step 3

Roll the dough out thin, add the filling and then sprinkle on the shredded cabbage.

Step 4

Fold the sides in and make a little package.

Step 5

On a greased baking sheet, bake them at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Serve with ketchup!
