20 years ago American Express launched their Membership Rewards program.   They were the first to offer points to their members that could be redeemed for rewards. My husband has carried an American Express card since the mid 80s, yet we didn’t sign up for the rewards program. I shudder to think how many points we have missed in those 20 years! Today the AmEx Membership Rewards program is bigger and better than ever.   The points can be redeemed for anything from Farmville and Amazon purchases to plane flights and hotel stays. Trip from Dallas mapI have been tasked with the grueling chore of designing a weekend getaway from Dallas using Membership Rewards points. I know!   I know!   It is pure torture! I live 20 minutes from DFW airport and would like to come up with something fun, fabulous and a bit off the beaten path. American Express is giving one of my readers a $100 AmEx gift card for a little planning assistance. To enter simply leave a comment below answering…

Where should I go?

Should I travel by train, plan or automobile?

What should I do when I get there?

You may leave a new answer each day.

  1. Where should I go? Savannah GA! I’ve been wanting to go there. Or Nashville TN. It’s awesome.
Should I travel by train, plane or automobile? Plane! Definitely.
What should I do when I get there? Well, in Nashville there is so much music and history. You could stay for weeks and not see everything!

  2. Off the beaten path…huh? Try Charleston. It’s a wonderful city with so much to offer in the way of culture and relaxation. Stay in one of their historic bed and breakfasts. Some have happy hour and cookies in the evenings. Walk the Battery overlooking the water. Visit the aquarium. Come home refreshed. It’s an easy, breezy flight away!

  3. I’ve lived in Texas my whole life, so anywhere else sounds like a treat! I’d love to go to New York City and see all the iconic places like Central Park, the Empire State Building, etc.

  4. Backpacking!

Disembark at one train station in the middle of nowhere (I know they exist, I’ve encountered many during my travels), then spend a few days backpacking, setting up camp at a different spot each night, working towards the next train station!

  5. If it is just a weekend, I’d say MARFA TX. Check out Judd’s art in town and out at the base. Drink coffee and listen to amazing writers read their works at the bookstore downtown. Rent a car and drive down to Big Bend National Park, stopping just outside in a tiny little town to eat at Shirley’s Burnt Biscuit. Best donuts and sweet bread I have ever had. Yummy.
