- The official name of the Statue of Liberty is “Liberty Enlightening the World”; in French, it’s called “La Liberté Éclairant le Monde”.
- The Statue of Liberty commemorates the friendship of the peoples of the United States and France.
- The Statue of Liberty has 6 important elements:
- The torch lights the path to liberty.
- Crown – symbol of Divinity.
- Robe – symbol of Liberty.
- Spikes on the crown represent the seven continents.
- Broken shackles represent Freedom from Oppression.
- Tablet represents the law.
- The Statue’s tablet has the date of American Independence written on Roman numerals (July IV, MDCCLXXVI)
- It is made of an iron frame with copper hung over the frame.
- From the base to the torch, the height of the Statue of Liberty is 151 ft. Including the pedestal and foundation, the full height is 305 ft.
- The total weight is 450,000 pounds (225 tons).
- There are 354 steps inside the statue from the pedestal to the crown.
- Miss Liberty’s feet are 25 ft long, making her a US women’s shoe size 879.
- And her nose is 4 ft. 6 in.
