What do you do when your kids are bored? How can you keep them occupied? It can be a struggle to beat boredom, but we have some ideas!
Are your kids saying they are BORED? Here are 15 Things To Do!
First of all, remember that boredom is a good thing. It gives our kids a chance to entertain themselves. It lets them keep themselves busy. And it gives them a chance to use their imaginations.
However… sometimes you might want to help them find ways to entertain themselves, so here is what we suggest:
Put together a Memory Jar.
Go to a Drive-In movie… in your living room or on your back porch! Make these little drive-in cars out of a cardboard box & a paper plate & you’re set! Make smores, popcorn & enjoy the show!
Create a schedule. This way the kids will know that at 9am they work on schoolwork, or at 10am they will be playing a game, 1:00 is time to relax & watch a show, etc.
Remind them about some of the fun toys they have in their room or stored in a toybox somewhere. They’ll remember them & they’ll be busy playing in no time!
Keep screens to a limit, if possible. This will allow them to play & really be creative. Screen time is good, but can be overused. Set specific times during the day for the screen or use the “No Screentime Until Printable”
Set up a time of the day for reading. Maybe it’s right after dinner or right before bedtime, but save time to read every day.
Make kids activity bags together.
Have themed days like Make it Monday where you make a craft, or Waffles Wednesday, where you make waffles for DINNER. This can help the kids look forward to specific days.
Help your child find a hobby they are passionate about, and can focus on. Look up tutorials on Youtube for things like piano lessons, painting lessons, etc…
See if you can download some audiobooks and listen with your child before bed each night. This is also a great thing to do for some relaxing downtime in the afternoon.
Give them chores. If they want to earn screentime, they pick a chore from the swap chores for screentime cards
Let them make dinner! Let the kids pick a recipe (these ones only call for 3 ingredients). See if you have the ingredients. If so, let them make it while you are supervising.
Remember: You are the helper.. they are the main chef tonight!
Start a family project. Could you all start a garden or work together on something? Find a project everyone can focus on.
Let them look up fort ideas & then let them build one.
Play Cake Wars.
