Let’s make a homemade DIY cuticle cream!

DIY Citrus Cuticle Cream

Sometimes, not even the best hand lotions are enough for our cuticles! I am so excited to share this recipe! I sat out to make a cuticle cream that would rival my Burt’s Bees (since making it on my own would cost so much less) and I did it! I wasn’t sure how it would work out but it is so good. Especially during the cold weather and winter months, my hands get dry spots and dry cuticles – sometimes even cracked cuticles, making it a very sensitive area. Living in the Midwest means several freezing cold months and crazy dry skin. Winter here makes cuticle butter a necessity rather than a cosmetic product! Cuticles are what protect both your nails and the skin surrounding them from fungal infection, that’s why it’s very important to ensure you have healthy cuticles. Besides, applying this cuticle cream can increase the circulation around your nails, stimulating nail growth and keeping your nail tips strong. You can also add a little bit of cuticle oil to this mix for better results. This recipe uses shea butter and coconut oil, but you can use cocoa butter, sweet almond oil and jojoba oil too. For nail care best results, use essential oils – The best essential oils for a healthy nail cuticle are tea tree, lemon oil, and lavender oils. These three have anti-fungal and antibacterial properties. We love the ones from Young Living! Now that I’ve discovered this recipe, it’s become one of my favorite natural solutions for stubborn cuticles, so I’ll be making my own cuticle cream every year and even plan on giving it out as a gift to some of my friends.

Here’s what you need to make this. I only made a couple because they last for quite a while. If you plan to make these as gifts though, just double or triple the recipe to make them in bulk. (This post contains affiliate links!)

Healthy cuticles = healthy nails!

Step 1

Heat water in a small saucepan (you can use a double boiler if you have it, but it’s not necessary) – you don’t want it to start boiling, so just watch it so it doesn’t pour over.

Step 2

Put the beeswax, tablespoon coconut oil and tablespoon shea butter in a glass bowl and sit it right on top of the sauce pan. Let it melt!

Step 3

Take it off the heat and put in 10 drops of Stress Away essential oil. This citrus blend is absolutely perfect for this recipe and smells incredible – but you can try other essential oils like the ones we suggested. If you double your recipe, remember to double the oils also.

Step 4

Pour the mixture carefully into your containers, working quickly because the shea butter hardens fast. Once it’s dry, go ahead and try it! Keep at room temperature in a closed container. I think you will love this recipe as much as I do.
