Medieval Times DallsMy family and I went to Medieval Times for the first time yesterday. We were invited to come watch the brand new program that the Dallas castle launched a few weeks ago.   We were thrilled to accept. Reid, my 8 year old, is currently studying this time period in history.   He has a fascination with all things knights, dragons, weapons – so I knew this would be a big hit. We went to a Wednesday evening performance which started at 7:30.   We were told to get there early since seating is first come/first serve although groups are always sat together.   We arrived a little after 6 and were welcomed into the castle with a “Good evening, My Lady“. Once we went through the ticketing line {which was short and moved quickly}, we went into a room and had a family picture taken with the Princess. We then went into the next area where we could dress up for another photograph.   Reid and I were the only ones that thought that might be fun, so we dressed up in medieval attire and fought a dragon. That lead to another very large room or hall.   It had two large bar areas, plus several gift shop stands, the horse stalls and a museum of torture.   We looked around for awhile and then sat at a table to wait until the main hall opened.   The boys found several other kids and all were running around waving the complimentary flags while being warned NOT to use them as weapons. Just before 7:30, the doors opened and we were seated.   We felt lucky to have front row seats in the middle of the arena.   We were in the cheering section of the Black & White Knight, Don Lofre Santa Creu.   He is the defender of the ancient shrine at Santiago De Compostella who brings despair to the impure of heart. We were served tomato soup and flat bread while the Lord Chancellor welcomed us and introduced us to the Royal Court and the Knights of the Realm.   Each section in the arena supports one of the 6 Knights. One thing that surprised me was how close we were to all the action.   There were horses and riders flying right in front of us. As the program went on we were introduced to the Royal Falconer and what I assumed was the Royal Falcon.   This beautiful bird swooped over the crowd as he flew around the building.   This was my favorite part of the program.   It was fun to see the interaction between the falconer and the bird. Dinner progressed to chicken, ribs, and potatoes sans utensils followed by castle pastry. Pageantry lead to battle and the battle was my boys’ favorite part.   There was a lot of Knight warfare with various medieval weapons. In the end, honor prevailed. My boys had a great time.   According to Reid, Medieval Times now ranks as the second best place he has ever visited. Thanks so much to Medieval Times for providing our tickets to the show. And you can thank Reid and me for successfully fighting this dragon and saving the world from certain red dragon destruction…
