My kids love granola bars and I love having them eat healthy breakfasts and snacks! These are great for those “on-the-run” mornings!

Let’s make some Kid-Friendly Homemade Granola Bars
The oatmeal makes them feel full, the dried fruit makes my fruit-loving little man happy and the flaxseed adds brain-friendly fats. These granola bars will keep for a week or so, but for a longer shelf-life, freeze them!

Ingredients to make Kid-Friendly Homemade Granola Bars
- 2 cups rolled oats (grind 1 cup in the blender or food processor for more consistent texture)
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup wheat germ
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup vegetable/canola oil
- 1/2 cup honey and/or maple syrup
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup peanut butter (optional)
- about 2 cups total: any combination of raisins, dried fruit (cherries and apricots are our favorite), pecans, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, sunflower seeds, flaxseed
- also optional: 1 tsp cinnamon and 1/2 tsp nutmeg
directions to make Kid-Friendly Homemade Granola Bars
Step 1
Mix everything together very well and spread in a greased 9×13 pan.
Step 2
Bake at 350 for just 15-18 minutes. Even though this doesn’t seem long enough, they’ll be chewy & perfect.
Step 3
Allow to cool down before cutting it into pieces. I always freeze half the pan right away so they’re fresh even if it takes more than a few days to eat them.

This really does sound delicious. I appreciated how you added flax seed to the recipe. It adds much fiber to the bars.
