Sorry but this is NOT a hoax. The announcement came when the Utah Jazz’s all star player, Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19 (Coronavirus).
“The test result was reported shortly prior to the tip-off of tonight’s game between the Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder and Chesapeake Energy Arena. At that time, tonight’s game was canceled. The affected player was not in the arena,” the league stated.

The stadium was actually full at the time and when the team found out the player tested positive, they walked off the court leaving fans confused. The stadium was reportedly on lockdown until they asked everyone to leave. It was later discovered this was the reason.
For now, we have no idea how long the NBA season will be suspended so, keep an eye out for more information.
