Let’s save money on our wedding cake at Costco!

COSTCO CUSTOM CAKES

The costs for wedding cakes can easily run into the hundreds, even thousands, of dollars, and there is no guarantee that the cake is even going to be tasty.

At the very least, it’d look pretty though.

If you have ever purchased a Costco cake from the Costco Bakery, you know that they are incredibly delicious and a favorite at kids birthday parties and office parties everywhere!

Wedding Cake Hacks to Save Money

To save money, many brides and grooms have chosen wedding cake hacks that can decrease the cost while still making the wedding eventful.  Here are some that you may have seen:

  • Use fake tiers in the wedding cake…yes, some of those beautifully frosted layers are foam…ick!
  • Have a smaller wedding cake for show and cutting while having sheet cakes to serve the guests in the back.
  • Choose a non-traditional wedding cake that is actually single tiers sitting on platforms (that is what I did so many years ago).
  • Decorate with flowers instead of needing the mad skills of a pastry Chef.

None of those seem like the ultimate solution…

COSTCO WEDDING CAKES

Well, all of that is about to change because Instagrammer @CottageFarmhouse shared an amazing wedding cake hack that is guaranteed to provide an awesomely flavorful cake for a fraction of the cost–just head to Costco!

Costco Sheet Cakes

Everyone loves a Costco sheet cake and this wedding cake is made from two of Costco’s regular cakes.  Instead of hundreds, this cake was put together for around $50!

COSTCO WEDDING CAKE ORDER + DECORATIONS

The cakes were re-iced with buttercream icing, and the bride and groom purchased $10 worth of flowers at Trader Joe’s for decorations.

They even found the cake stand at Hobby Lobby for another deal.

This beautiful cake looked super professional, tasted great, and didn’t cost the bride and groom an arm and a leg to put it together.

Can you imagine the possibilities for birthday cakes with this hack? Amazing and just one more reason to love Costco!

COSTCO WEDDING CAKE FAQS

Does Costco still sell sheet cake?

In a super controversial decision, Costco stopped selling sheet cakes and 1/2 sheet cakes for awhile (Costco Is No Longer Selling Half-Sheet Cakes. Here’s Why.), but thankfully Costco came to their senses and has brought back all the buttercream goodness of a chocolate or vanilla sheet cake. You will need to go to your local Costco bakery area to order and pick up your sheet cakes as they are not available through the Costco website.

How much does sheet cake cost at Costco?

Generally a Costco half sheet cake is $25 which is a steal of a deal for a delicious cake of that size.

How many does a full sheet cake serve at a wedding?

The Costco 1/2 sheet cake serves 48 people. The full sheet cake serves double that at 96 servings.

What kind of sheet cakes does Costco sell?

Costco sells chocolate and vanilla sheet cakes and half sheet cakes.

  1. Thanks for your post! I actually had a my wedding last year and researched so many options for saving costs on our wedding cake. I wish I saw your post earlier about stacking two sheet cakes and adding icing! We got a very beautiful small two-tier cake from a local cake maker that we used for the cake cutting and picture. Then we ordered 2 Costco sheet cakes that the catering people cut and served to the guess. The guests don’t know the difference and it was very tasty!
