What Is the Biggest Secret You Have to Juggling Everything That Comes with Motherhood?

I most certainly DO NOT have the whole motherhood thing 100% down. I think we are all doing the best that we can for our children and families.
As a single mom, I have learned that I need two things in order to make it: organization, as well as a Plan B, C, and D!
Organization is Key in Juggling Everything That Comes with Motherhood
I have not always been an organized person, and I still struggle with organization when I get very busy. Funny isn’t it? These are the times when it really benefits us to stay organized, but it’s hard to get organized when you’re in the midst of being super busy!
One of my must-have items is a good paper planner. I do use the calendar on my phone, which syncs with my computer and iPad, but I truly rely on a basic planner that I can write everything down on, as the “headquarters” for my life. There’s just something so satisfying about stickers, and being able to cross items off as I accomplish them! It’s also nice to not have to worry about my paper planner “dying” on me!
I am big on color coordination with pen ink, highlighters, or post-its, to break down which responsibilities/ commitments belong to my work life, kids (appointments, etc.), my own appointments, as well as fun with family and friends. It’s so much easier to take a quick glance and make sense of it all.
I coordinate dates for events and appointments that are still months down the road. As soon as the school calendar is posted for the new school year, I start recording important dates in my planner right away, so that I’m as prepared as I can be.
Plan Ahead Whenever Possible
Since it’s just my daughter and I, it’s imperative for me to plan ahead as much as I can with any situation. Due to health issues, we are both sick often, and usually, at the same time (ha!). I try to get ahead of this by planning ahead for any medical issues, making sure my medicine cabinet is stocked with at least an extra month’s worth of our daily medications, as well as keeping over-the-counter items up to date in the cupboard.
We freeze homemade chicken soup, and vegetable soup, as well as other healthy frozen meals. When we are sick, the last thing I have energy for is cooking, but that’s the worst time for takeout and convenience foods–our bodies need lots of vitamins and nutrients, to heal. Meal planning with freezer meals allows for the best of both worlds.
This Too Shall Pass…
One of my grandma’s favorite sayings. It has always kept me calm, and has become my mantra during trying times. While in the middle of raising these babies and kids, the nights may be long, but (whether we see it yet or not) the years are so short. They fly by, mama! Before you know it, your nest will empty out and some of the things that left you feeling so stressed and frazzled will be no longer.
I really try to hold onto that reminder, especially during the hectic times. One way or another, it will all get done, whether I stress or not.
Go easy on yourself, and hug those little ones as long and often as you can!
