Ingredients for Turmeric Split Peas and Vegetables

  • 2 tsps vegetable oil
  • 1/4 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp ground tumeric
  • 2 jalapeno chilies, seeded and finely chopped
  • 2 cups caulifowerets
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 2 cups pre-cooked yellow split peas
  • 2 cups frozen green peas, thawed
  • 1 can (~15 oz) black beans, drained

Directions to make Turmeric Split Peas and Vegetables

Step 1

Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.

Step 2

Add cumin, turmeric, and chilies in oil and cook for two minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 3

Add cauliflowers and chicken broth. Cover and cook 3 to 4 minutes, until cauliflowers are tender.

Step 4

Stir in the remaining ingredients. Cook for about five minutes, stirring the mixture until hot.

Special note in cooking the split peas

Instructions for cooking yellow split peas will be on the bag. Typically, half a bag (1 pound) will require either soaking peas in 3 to 4 cups of water overnight, or boiling the same amount for two minutes and setting aside for an hour.
