How to Use Lemon Essential Oil

Lemon essential oil is another very versatile essential oil.  How to use Lemon Essential Oil is a question we have gotten.

Lemon oil is one of the vials included in our Premium Starter Oil Kit and we use it in everything from playdough recipe, to DIY household cleaners, and even in detox bath salts.  We have used this oil for everything from adding flavor to water to helping combat the seasonal itchy and watery eyes. Using Essential Oils with Kids

Remove Sticky Surfaces

Forget to take a sticker off a new shirt before washing and drying? Don’t throw it out! Rub lemon essential oil all over the sticky part and let sit for a minute.  Use your fingernail or a flat tool to easily scrape off the sticky residue. Works like a charm!  You can also use it to remove sticky labels, get gum out of carpet and hair, get sap off fingers and other sticky mishaps.

Disinfect and Deodorize

Stinky kitchen? Sick kids? Diffusing lemon essential oil spreads the lemon particles throughout the room and all the surfaces these particles land on can reap the disinfecting and deodorizing benefits of lemon. If your laundry is musty add a few drops of lemon to your load. Plus, did we mention it smells fantastic?

Soothe Oral Pains

It may seem counter-intuitive to use lemon oil on things like a sore throat, but lemon essential oil does not sting like lemon juice. Minor oral sores, red throats, swollen gums and the like are all easily soothed by a single drop of lemon oil. Try adding a few drops to a cup of hot water and honey for a great tasting and comforting tea if your throat hurts. (Lemon is one of the essential oils kids don’t seem to mind the taste of.)

Lighten Your Hair!

It sounds crazy but we have used it successfully to add natural highlights to our hair.  Place a drop on your finger tips, glide over sections of your hair and then sit the sun for awhile.  The lemon reacts with the sunlight and highlights develop!  When you have reached the desired shade, wash and condition your hair as usual. Unlike chemical highlighters and bleaches lemon will not drying out or damage your hair.

Comforting Bath.

Mix a cup of Epsom Salts with 5 to 10 drops of lemon oil for a refreshing bath.

Itchy Eyes Remedy

And DO NOT put the oil in your eyes!  Lemon essential oil is part of the “seasonal sneezes” recipe.  We use 1 drop each of lemon, lavender and peppermint essential oil mixed with 10 drops of a carrier oil.  Take one drop of this mixture orally and your sneezes will subside.  Of all the oily “bombs” this one tastes the best and is noted for being highly effective in most people.

Cheer up the home!

Add lemon essential oil to your aroma diffuser to help lift the mood around your home. The sweet citrusy aroma is delightful and cheery.

Boost Concentration!

Turn on that diffuser and add 4-12 drops of lemon essential oil while your kids are doing homework.  Studies show that scents can help children who are studying to stay focused and retain more information.
