There usually aren’t parenting awards… I can only imagine THAT red carpet was chosen for its dark color and ability to cover spills and stains. …but some days, you {and I} DESERVE an award!
  • Best mom in a comedy situation
  • Best dad in a minivan drama
  • Best grandparent in a child-led documentary
5 ways to reward yourself Even though we aren’t going to be gathering in fancy outfits to receive golden statues, there is a fun contest for parents going on right now hosted by our partner, Minute Maid.  It is “Breakfast with Missy” where you can nominate friends and relatives that are parents who are #doingood to win breakfast with Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin.  Look below for details on how to enter! There are simple ways that we can reward ourselves for a job well-done {even if that job was just to get everyone through the day alive}!  Here are five that I like to practice at my house filled with boys… Mini-Vacation:  Every night I take a bath.  It is  a lovely, relaxing vacation from real life.  My family knows that no one should disturb bathing mom!  I like to read or watch TV from the tub which makes it a bit of an escape as well. Special Treat:  Smoothies are a big treat at my house for everyone, but sometimes I forget to make one for myself.  My favorite is Minute Maid Orange Juice, a dollop of yogurt and a handful of frozen strawberries.  Whiz it up in the blender for 30 seconds and you can almost imagine sitting on a beach while sipping. Mom’s Night Out:  Planning an informal get-together with a close friend {or friends} is long overdue!  It doesn’t have to be fancy, but planning to meet without the kids for some adult conversation can give a long-lasting mood lift. Binge Watching:  One of my favorite things to do is binge watch TV shows – it is almost like reading a book!  I never was a big TV watcher until full seasons were available to watch in a row.  Sneaking into a cozy corner of the house after the kids go to bed to watch some frivolous entertainment can be a well-deserved reward. Get Playful:  Because our parenting to-do list can be overwhelming, we often forget the fun of getting to relive childhood through the eyes of our kids.  Stop the stressing and get down on the floor and play.  Take a trip to the park and swing alongside your child.  Whatever your favorite activity was, introduce your kid(s) to it today!
