Today I am sharing places I love in my home town. It is my personal
Best of Flower Mound, TX.
This list is inspired by a partnership with
goodnessknows ® Snack Squares. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Flower Mound, it is in the suburbs of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex just a bit north of DFW Airport.
I have called Flower Mound home for over 10 years.
So, no article about Flower Mound would be complete without identifying that there REALLY is a flower mound. It isn’t a hill, it isn’t a mountain, it is a mound. And when springtime comes, it is covered with flowers.
This is a picture I took at the flower mound a few years ago during bluebonnet season. It is a Texas mom tradition to take yearly pictures of your kids in the bluebonnets.
It is as important as Santa pictures each holiday season!
Flower Mound goodness guide
I want to share some of my favorite local places with you. Oh, and check out information below on how you can win a $100 gift card to visit one of my favorite spots (or yours, if Flower Mound isn’t close).
Let’s start with some of my family’s local favorites…
Post Oak Park – It is Flower Mound’s newest parks and I believe it is among the best. What my kids love is the intense tree-cover over the entire park which makes even sunny Texas summer days bearable outdoors. There are trails around the lake and even a long bridge-like trail over the marshland.
Swimming “Holes” – These near-to-Flower Mound swimming venues are a definite upgrade to a swimming hole! In the summer we adore visiting the
Roanoke Community Pool if we are only going for a short time because admission is under $5! This pool has plenty of swimming space, a splash area and a meandering slide. Pizza is $1 a slice.
If we have the whole day, then
Hawaiian Falls also in Roanoke is where we park our beach chair. There are a ton of slides of various lengths and configurations along with a wave pool and lazy river. Occasionally we get a bunch of friends together and splurge for a cabana which acts as home-base for the entire event.
Winter is no problem because just 8 miles down the road in Grapevine is
Great Wolf Lodge. My kids love GWL. Every year around this time I watch for the Big Brothers Big Sisters promotion to get day passes to Great Wolf Lodge for $20. They go fast and it is the only way to visit for the day at that price.
We adore a good meal out (it might have something to do with my cooking skills). Here are a few of our local favorites…
Family Lunch – One of our favorite places to go as a family out to eat is
Asahi. It has a full hibachi table area with great entertainment and food, but we actually like eating at a booth and ordering Chicken Katsu Bento Boxes. They are absolutely yummy…especially on days that the dessert is the chocolate coffee layer cake!
Leave the Kids at Home Dinner – We adore the restaurant,
Prime in Flower Mound. I promise you that anything you order will be amazing. Their menu changes daily because they are a farm to table establishment. If you ever see the carrot soup or grilled peach burrata, order an extra for me.
Dinner & a Movie –
Moviehouse & Eatery is a new favorite. You can eat and watch or you can just watch or you can just stop by and eat.
Now, that is flexible awesomeness.
Take Home a Family Meal – If you have time to stop and eat,
Savory Bistro in Bartonville is always a sure thing. But what you may not know is that there are full family prepared meals to heat at home. It is the same fresh, healthy quality that you get in the restaurant. These can be ordered weekly or picked up on site.
The kids shouldn’t have ALL the fun. Here is my favorite place to relax…
Best Mom’s Day Out – I know I have mentioned it before, but I love
Splurge Salon. They do a great job with cuts/colors/whatever else you need done. They also do facials and specialty hair treatments.
