My goal this year was to get all three boys on skis. The older boys have skied a week or two each of the last two years.
Ryan(7) is now going down green and green/blue slopes carefully.
Reid(5) is a green slope skier with supervision and a little direction.
Rhett(3) has never been on skis, but has been trash-talking the entire family for weeks…
I am going to race with Grandpa.
I am going to win even though I fall down one time.
I am fast.
I want to go up the tallest mountain.
The
great winter clothes and gear hand-me-down ceremony of 2009 occurred. Reid is now wearing Ryan’s old gear, Rhett is now in Reid’s and Ryan gets new –
sometimes it is nice to be #1.
I took Rhett out to the hill.

He hopped on the magic carpet that took him to the top of the bunny slope and declared with out-stretched hand in my direction…
I don’t need you!
I squeezed in a little instruction and then went to stand in the middle of the hill to wait for his descent.

Turns out he has mad ski skillz. He skis with amazing control
for a three year old UNTIL he gets within 10 feet of me so that
he can use me as an emergency brake.
He has no incentive to stop.
Great.
He has no incentive to stop.
Yep.
He laughs when he falls.
He runs into me for giggles.
He has no incentive to stop.
He begged to go to the top of the mountain, but I assured him that I would never take him until he can prove to me that he can stop when I ask.
He giggled…
And plowed into me.
The good news is that this activity wears him out.

Coincidentally, chasing him all over the hill trying to keep him from DEATH does the same to me…

You’re a much smarter mommy. We made the mistake of letting Princess ski between our legs the first time out. The second trip we couldn’t take it anymore and paid for a private lesson. She did great! Skiing on her own, stopping when told and even starting to make turns.
When the lesson was over she was excited to ski with mommy and daddy. Until we got off the magic carpet and I headed out a little ahead and Honey told her to go ahead and ski.
She freaked and refused to go down by herself. She wants to go skiing again but insists that we have to let her ski with her teacher again. Fat chance of that happening!
Oh that sounds like a great family trip. Except for the nerve wracking, hand wringing nonstop Rhett stuff going on. But, then…you sound pretty relaxed for a stop sign mommy. What fun pictures!
We’re working on getting ours on skis as well.
remind me to stay off the slopes when rhett gets on ’em.
thanks
And I wanted to teach my 9 year old stepdaughter to ski!!! She’d break me (no pun intended).
Wow. I’ve been holding out because mine are 7, 5, and 3 and I thought the youngest might be too young for ski school this year.
Now I know how wrong I was to wait!
Look out, slopes! Here we come. ;D

oh. I did it wrong. I sent the kids to ski school so they could run into other people while I sat in the lodge and had hot chocolate with kahlua. Stupid me. Look at all the fun I missed.
Those are precious pics…and I LOVE your outfit@! 🙂
Too cute! Looked like it was fun!
My husband and I are skiiers and we’re sort of scared that our toddler is going to turn into a snowboarder since that’s what ALL the kids do, now. WTF – snowboarding is for pansies. Skiing is way hawter.
